On writing

Like many of you, I love the written word and storytelling. Many hours of my life have been spent toiling at the ‘word loom’ spinning its yarn in search of, well, a great yarn.

At times, the labor has been to craft a story to sell a business case or to convince a brilliant talent to join a team/mission I had been given the privilege of leading. Then months (or years) later, selling customers on using the product of our efforts.

Occasionally, the goal has been the creation of fiction - like the unfinished dragon stories I made up for my kids to teach them lessons on courage, forgiveness, and sacrifice.

The unfinished aspect of that is something they remind me of regularly.

I hear many anecdotes from authors, songwriters, and the like about eventually finishing a work begun then stymied when an impasse was reached - those anecdotes give me hope for finishing my dragon story (I am desperately trying to remember the details of it!).

In that context, I share this amazing video from another storyteller you may have heard of.

Btw, King’s book on writing is an excellent read, whether you enjoy his fiction or not.
